Unforgettable African Safari: Is This Uganda’s Ultimate Primate Experience?

Your Gateway to the Emerald Heart of Africa

What if your next adventure changed everything you thought you knew about the wild?. This is the central question many world travellers ask before booking an African safari. At My African Traveller, we believe the answer lies deep within the mist-shrouded forests of Uganda. To show you exactly what we mean, we are thrilled to introduce our new cinematic explainer video: “Unforgettable African Safari” (also titled “Beyond the Horizon: Your Unforgettable African Safari Dream“).

This video captures the raw beauty and emotional depth of our signature 7-Day Chimps and Gorillas Tracking Expedition. It is a journey designed for those who seek a profound connection with nature without sacrificing world-class comfort. Watch the video below to witness the magic of the “Pearl of Africa” and see how this journey can be entirely tailor-made to your personal needs and desires.

A Narrative of Discovery

The expedition begins at Entebbe International Airport, where you are met by a representative and assisted with a flight to the Kasese Airstrip. A scenic transfer whisks you away to the Bunyaruguru Crater Lake region.

You will check into the exquisite Ndali Lodge, which sits near a large volcanic crater. Each cottage features a private veranda with stunning views and four-poster beds draped in mosquito nets. At night, the lodge is lit by lanterns and candles, creating an atmosphere of utter romance and seclusion.

Tracking the Chimpanzee Kingdom On your second day, you enter Kibale Forest National Park. This forest is famous for holding the largest concentration of chimpanzees in Africa. Tracking these primates is a truly immersive experience. You will navigate the forest floor to observe their play, grooming, and social bonds. This trek can be strenuous and may last up to four hours. Afterward, you can enjoy a walk through the Bigodi Wetlands, a sanctuary for birdlife and rare monkeys.

Serenity and the Hidden Paths Day three allows you to set your own pace among the crater landscapes. Accompanied by local guides, you can walk the crater rims or visit the dramatic Mahoma Waterfall. You may also choose to explore the 1,000-acre farm at Ndali Lodge, walking through banana and vanilla plantations. It is a serene counterbalance to the intensity of the forest treks.

The Legendary Bwindi Impenetrable Forest On day four, you travel south toward the heights of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. You will stay at the Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, a luxury camp tucked deep within the national park. It is the perfect, secluded base for your unforgettable gorilla adventure.

The Silverback Encounter Day five is the cornerstone of your expedition. You will hike into the dense, vibrant foliage of Bwindi. Once the gorillas are located, time seems to stand still. Your group is allowed a maximum of one hour with them. You will witness the majestic and soulful presence of the silverback leader and his family. In the evening, relax at camp and listen to folk tunes played on the traditional Bakiga guitar.

The Batwa Heritage On your final full day, you have the unique opportunity to meet the local Batwa community. This is a rare privilege, as only eight of the original Batwa forest masters are believed to remain. They will tell you how they hunt, make fires, build houses, and use plants for medicinal purposes. It is a rare, humble, and deeply educational cultural experience.

Best Times to Travel

For optimal trekking conditions, we recommend travelling during the dry seasons. These are January to February and June to September. During these periods, the forest floor is dry, the skies are clear, and visibility is higher. This makes the forest paths more navigable for your adventure.
